An under the radar producer of Chateauneuf-du-Pape no more! The 2017 vintage for Chateau Gigognan is groundbreaking, with huge marks for their Clos du Roi Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Their monumental 2015 & 2016 vintages were a tough act to follow, but 2017 is stepping up to outclass its younger siblings. Similar in style to 2015, the hot dry conditions yielded powerful, structured red wines. While Clos de Papes, Beaucastel, and Saint-Prefert are fetching top dollar, the Gigognan Chateauneuf du Pape is simply stunning for under $35!
"Wafting of garrigue, blackberries and dusty earth, there's so much to appreciate on the nose itself of this inky Grenache blend. Rounded and plush, it's richly packed with plummy black cherry and berry flavors that mesh into fine-grained but gripping tannins. A wine that should reach peak from 2022 to 2037 yet likely hold further still." The Wine Enthusiast, 95 Points
