Rioja is the crown jewel of Spanish reds, and one of the most popular labels in the entire world is Marques de Caceres. Instantly recognizable, their Excellens Special Cuvee is produced only in the vintages which Marques de Caceres considers "great." 2019 was one of those vintages with mild growing conditions which produced solid wines with ripe fruit. Aged 14 months in new French and American oak barrels, the Excellens Cuvee is aged another 12 months in bottle prior to release. This aging of the bottles at the winery is one of the reasons we love Rioja so much. The wines are ready to drink upon release!
"Deep-garnet in the glass, this wine offers aromas of black cherry, cassis and dried sage. It is bold at first sip, with grippy tannins that back off to reveal mission fig, black-plum, cocoa-powder and coffee-bean flavors, with a hint of eucalyptus that lingers on the palate alongside a soft floral note."
