One of the most sought-after values in Bordeaux, Chapelle d'Alienor is produced by famed Chateau la Gaffeliere! About a 15 minute drive from the vineyards that make their $100 wine, Alienor and Alexandre de Malet Roquefort found this property in Mouliets-et-Villemartin back in 2001. After 17 vintages, the 2018 is hitting the perfect notes of black fruits and structure that is well integrated into the rich wood and acidity. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. the 2018 Merlot-based wines of the right bank are superb!
Since 1705, the Counts of de Malet Roquefort are the owners of the Chateau La Gaffeliere, 1st Grand Cru Classe since 1959. In 2001 Alienor and Alexandre de Malet Roquefort fell under the spell of the Chateau Chapelle Maracan, which vineyards extend over the hills close to Saint Emilion. In 2009, the couple renamed the estate to Chapelle d'Alienor in reference to Alienor d'Aquitaine, Queen of France and then England. Possessing some of the best qualities of Saint Emilion, the Chapelle d'Alienor is one of the best values in red Bordeaux.
"This ripe, flamboyant 2018 reveals a deep purple color as well as classic notes of black cherries, tobacco, forest floor, and earth. Showing a floral edge with time in the glass, it’s medium-bodied, upfront, and ready to go. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years." The Wine Buyer, 92 Points
